What is ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System)?

In: General On:

The ADAS System performs important tasks during driving to avoid possible accidents, minimize driver errors, and as a pre-stimulus in situations requiring sudden reflexes. During driving, data from radar, camera and ultrasonic sensors are processed at high speed, and any danger situations are detected in advance. In response to the detected risky situation, depending on the vehicle type, the ADAS system either warns the driver with different actions or makes physical interventions to reduce the danger.

If we take the ADAS system as an example, lane keeping, collision prevention, tracking distance protection systems are all part of the adas system. The ADAS system works simultaneously with the mechanics and electronics of your vehicle. In other words, external factors such as your speed while driving, wheel positions, road conditions are the factors that play a primary role in the decision-making of the ADAS system. At this point, if there has been a change in the calibrated ADAS data in your vehicle, the ADAS system may make errors in the decision mechanism. For this reason, especially in the event of situations that may disrupt the calibration, such as an accident-impact, it is necessary to check the calibrations of your ADAS system to continue working properly.

What is the ADAS Calibration ?

ADAS calibration is the event where the mechanical and electronic layout in your vehicle is combined with the data in the ADAS system with the lowest error margin. For this operation, you need an ADAS calibration device such as the Launch X431 Pro4 Lite and optionally an ADAS Calibration Kit.
This process can be done in two different ways.

Dynamic Adas Calibration

You do not need an ADAS calibration kit for dynamic ADAS calibration operation. Dynamic ADAS Calibration is also known as Mobile ADAS calibration. As the name implies, Mobile ADAS Calibration is a calibration method that you can do using only an ADAS calibration device at certain speeds and under certain road conditions while the vehicle is on the road. It is a fast and reliable method.

Static ADAS Calibration

Static ADAS Calibration is the process of calibrating your vehicle in an environment where there is a certain light and distance without moving it with the ADAS calibration kit and ADAS Calibration Device. This process is carried out with the ADAS Calibration Patterns of the ADAS calibration kit, which define the road conditions specific to the brands. This process is a high-precision ADAS calibration process designed to be applied in severe calibration failures, usually after an accident.

Error Codes Caused by ADAS Error Lamps and Situations Requiring Calibration

In the new generation ADAS equipped vehicles, you will find that after some parts are replaced or repaired, the ADAS mechanism of the vehicles must be calibrated to continue working correctly. Although these error codes and Error lights are an indication that the ADAS system is not working correctly. It is a clear warning that you cannot benefit from the ADAS-based risk reduction system either.

The main situations that require ADAS calibration are as follows;

Collision From The Front Or Rear

Changing the Front - Rear Bumper

Replacing the Windshield

Side Main Changes

Rear Trunk and Tailgate Changes

How is the ADAS Calibration Performed ?

To perform ADAS calibration, you first need the Launch X431 Pro4 Lite device. According to the type of calibration you will do later, you will need the ADAS calibration kit. After this operation, the ADAS calibration menu of the Launch X431 Pro4 Lite device will guide you respectively for the operations you will perform.
